Who to ask for help

The choice is between asking the xdk list or asking XDK tech support or one of their representative offices (like the UK or the US representatives).

XDK tech support if you can tell them how to reproduce an error that causes:

·         an invalid page fault (GPF)

·         a frozen screen that does not respond to a Ctrl+Alt+Del and needs to be rebooted

·         XDK closes but leaves MSWord running

·         The "blue screen of death" operating system error

Try to reproduce the error in as small a document and project as you can. While trying to make this small project you may isolate whatever it is that is causing the problem.

Use the Initiate a support request item on the Help tab to collect information on your system.

The xdk list should get all the other problems. This includes intermittent faults that you have not been able to reliably reproduce.

When posting a problem to the xdk list it is a good idea to include information about your PC in your email in case the people considering your problem need to consider these things in their response.

You can use the Initiate a support request item on the Help tab to collect this information on your system. Follow the process to create an email and then change the send to address from RepubliCorp (XDKsupport@republicorp.com) to the xdk list email address. But be very careful when posting to the xdk list to NEVER include your XDK serial number.

The resulting information should look like this:

Product: XDK 1.1 (020801) SP2
Word: 10.0.2627.0
Windows: NT 5.1 (XP pro)
Compiler: Standard HTML
TOC system: DHTML TOC
Browser: Internet Explorer 6.0.2600.0

Quite a few list messages come from the fact that because XDK is rich in features there is often a number of ways of achieving the same result.

The best questions have to do with relating the choices in XDK to a specific set of information, audience and/or budget.
